CAA Announces Rookie Swimmer & Divers of the Month For October

RICHMOND, Va. (November 5, 2024) – The CAA has announced its CAA Men’s and Women’s Rookie Swimmers and Divers of the Month, honoring top performances from freshmen during competition in October.

CAA MEN’S CO-ROOKIE SWIMMER OF THE MONTH
Joseph Busic, UNCW (Bayville, N.J.)

Busic swam the fastest time in the CAA this season in the 200 fly, posting a winning time of 1:48.78 in UNCW’s meet with nationally ranked Auburn. The freshman also competed in the 100 fly at the William & Mary Quad meet and finished in 50.05.

CAA MEN’S CO-ROOKIE SWIMMER OF THE MONTH
Anthony Mortellite, Towson (Hammonton, N.J.)

Mortellite has the fastest times in the CAA this season in the 500 free and 1650 free. He turned in a time of 4:32.79 in the 500 free prelims and touched the wall in 15:47.84 in the 1650 free at the Thomas Murphy Invitational. At the same meet, he posted a time of 9:31.81 in the 1,000 free, which is 4th-best in the CAA.

CAA WOMEN’S CO-ROOKIE SWIMMER OF THE MONTH
Tess Lankford, William & Mary (Baltimore, Md.)

Lankford has recorded top-three times in the conference in the 200 free and 200 IM. At the season-opening W&M Quad Meet, the freshman posted a time of 1:51.79 that is the 2nd-best in the CAA and followed with a time of 2:02.59 in the 200 IM that is the 3rd-fastest in the conference. She also has the 12th-best time in the 200 fly (2:07.60), which came against Johns Hopkins.

CAA WOMEN’S CO-ROOKIE SWIMMER OF THE MONTH
Maeren McGonigal, UNCW (Greensboro, N.C.)

McGonigal turned in top-two times in the conference in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 IM at the season-opening W&M Quad Meet. The freshman posted a time of 55.77 in the 100 back, which is the 2nd best in the CAA, a time of 1:59.21 in the 200 back, which is 2nd-fastest in the CAA, and 2:02.29 in the 200 IM, which also 2nd-fastest in the league.

CAA WOMEN’S ROOKIE DIVER OF THE MONTH
Peyton Sherrill, Delaware (Mullica Hills, N.J.)

Sherrill posted a pair of top eight finishes at the season-opening William & Mary Quad Meet. The freshman finished sixth on the 1-meter board with a score of 217.15 and seventh on the 3-meter board with a score of 210.35.
