Jack Burnell has taken gold in the FINA World Cup race in Lake Balaton in what is the Brit’s final 10km race ahead of the World Championships.
Burnell had been part of the leading pack in the first two laps of the race and lay in second place at the half way point.
The National Centre Loughborough swimmer made his move after the third lap and broke for the lead.
Burnell sprinted for the win through the closing stages of the race to touch in first place and take the gold.
The Brit came into this race off the back of winning the 10km race in Cozumel, Mexico in May.
Olympic silver medallist Keri-anne Payne fought hard through the final lap of the race to come back from sixth place to bronze.
The women’s 10km race saw a much tighter leading pack than the men’s race and Payne was within the pack for the first three laps of the race.
It was in the final lap that she made her fight for the podium. She looked strong as she made her move and touched the board in third place and claimed her position on the podium.
Both athletes will race next at the FINA World Championships in Kazan in July. For more information http://kazan2015.com/en/events
