LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s swimming & diving team won 14 of the 16 events in a dominant 218-82 win over Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The big Senior Day victory in the final dual meet of the season means the Bison will finish with a 6-2 record, including a 5-2 mark against Patriot League opponents.
Bucknell piled up the points against the Mountain Hawks, epitomized by a 1-2-3-4 finish from Liz Dokina, Sydney Jee, Hanna Bingley, and Ava Stallmeyer in the 200-yard breaststroke. The Bison took the top three places in three other events and went 1-2 in three more.
Freshman Clara Renner remained unbeaten in dual meets this season with three more wins in the 1000 freestyle and both butterfly events. Renner now has 19 wins on the season, and in the 100 fly, her time of 55.43 was .06 under her personal best, leaving her in sixth place on Bucknell’s all-time list.
Rylie Giles, one of 10 Bison women honored before the meet on Senior Day, won the 200 and 500 freestyles, and Kyla Kelly was also a double winner in the 100 free and 200 IM.
Renner and Kelly Byrne went 1-2 in the 1000, separated by only 1.5 seconds. Giles won the 200 free, and then the race of the day came in the 100 backstroke, where teammates Sofia Burns, Kelly, and Talia Bugel all touched within .57 seconds.
One race later, there was another near dead heat in the 100 breaststroke, with Jee edging Dokina by .02 seconds. Bingley finished third. Renner, Skye Sunderhauf, and Sydney Dettmann went 1-2-3 in the 200 fly, followed by a 1-2 effort from Sara Ketron and Virginia Hastings in another close race in the 50 free.
Reggie Frias picked up points with a win on the 1-meter diving board, with Gina Hinthorn, Meghan Catherwood, and Natalie Penman placing 3-4-5.
Lehigh’s only wins in the meet came from Willa Werweiss in the 200 back and Katie Whitaker in the 3-meter dive. Burns, Byrne, and Bugel went 2-3-4 behind Werweiss in the 200 back.
Bucknell closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, with Hastings, Jen Bolden, Dettmann, and Ketron comprising the quartet.
Bucknell improved to 36-10 all-time against Lehigh and 22-2 in the last 24 meetings.
Bucknell returns to action next Saturday with the Bison Invitational at Kinney Natatorium, and then the team will host the Patriot League Championships Feb. 19-22.
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The all-senior foursome of Nick Shopis, Justin DiSanto, Ed Park, and Chris Kopac won the 400-yard freestyle relay to put an exclamation point on a brilliant Senior Day performance from the Bucknell men’s swimming and diving team. The Bison won 15 of the 16 events on the way in a 227-70 victory over Lehigh in the final dual meet of the season on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.
DiSanto and Dorsel both had huge days. Both won two individual events, and DiSanto also swam legs on both winning relays. Alex Crossing captured both distance free events, and Jack Krug swept the two diving events, posting an impressive PR on the 3-meter board.
Bucknell went 1-2-3 in six events and 1-2 in four others on the way to its fifth straight win over the Mountain Hawks. The Bison wrapped up the dual campaign with a 4-4 record.
Shane Wynne, Will Hedges, Finn Russell, and DiSanto started the day with a win in the 200 medley relay, and Crossing followed with an eight-second win in the 1,000 free. Kopac and Damian Czartoryjski finished .79 apart in a 1-2 finish in the 200 free before Ben Kisker won Lehigh’s only event of the day in the 100 backstroke.
It was all Bison from there starting with a win from James Lombardi in the 100 breaststroke followed by three straight 1-2-3 finishes. Dorsel, Riley Twiss, and Ed Park took the top three places in the 200 fly DiSanto, Russell, and Colin Smith went 1-2-3 in the 50 free; and DiSanto, Dante Buonadonna, and Smith did the same a few minutes later in the 100 free.
Krug led 1-2-3 finishes in both diving events. On the 1-meter board, his winning mark of 281.33 was a mere .37 off his personal best. Later, his 307.95 in the 3-meter competition nudged him past teammate Jackson Vinarub for the No. 2 spot in team history. Vinarub tallied a 307.80 in the season-opener against Boston University in October.
Bucknell dominated down the stretch, with Braden Beagle winning the 200 back, followed by a 1-2 finish from Dorsel and Hedges in the 200 breast. Crossing, Kopac, and Twiss went 1-2-3 in the 500 free, and then Russell picked up a win in the 100 fly with Czartoryjski second. The final individual win came from Buonadonna in the 200 IM, just ahead of teammate Dorsel.
Bucknell returns to action next Saturday with the Bison Invitational at Kinney Natatorium, and then the team will host the Patriot League Championships Feb. 19-22.

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lehigh men’s and women’s swimming and diving closed up the dual slate at Bucknell Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatairum, where the men fell 227-70 to the Bison and the women fell 218-82.
With the loss, the men fell to 5-5 and the women dropped to 6-4 on the season. Next up, the Mountain Hawks travel back to Lewisburg where they will compete in the Bucknell Invitational on Feb. 1 at 12 p.m.
Women’s Recap
The Mountain Hawks took second in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. In the 200-yard medley relay, Willa Werwaiss, Zoe Davies, Clara Moschella and Caitlin Deitch swam to a second-place finish with a time of 1:46.92.
Werwaiss was also on the 400-yard medley relay team that came in second (3:36.67) alongside Maggie Mikalic, Juliana Guida and Mairin Ludwig.
Werwaiss tallied an individual win against the Bison on Saturday, coming in first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.89). Werwaiss also had a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.73).
Moschella was a second away from pulling out a win, tallying a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.88.
Ludwig had a pair of second-place finishes, coming second in the 200-yard IM (2:07.55) and the 200-yard freestyle 1:53.81.
The Mountain Hawks scored five points in the 1000-yard freestyle with Maggie Mikalic rolling to a third-place finish (10:40.14) and Natalie Martin coming in fourth (10:54.78).
Deitch finished with a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (24.95) with teammate Annie Gao coming in fourth (25.29).
Sophomore diver Kate Whitaker won the three-meter dive with 250.35 points. Senior diver Sarah Gill finished right behind Whitaker, taking home second with 239.78 points. Gill also finished second in the three-meter dive with 241.28 points.
Men’s Recap
Junior Ben Kisker had the lone individual win for the Mountain Hawks, taking home a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.46. First-year Tristan Ronayne pulled out a third-place mark in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.52.
Will Pestrichelli recorded a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:47.72.
Senior Connor Goodyear picked up three points for Lehigh with a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle 1:43.09.
In the relays, the Mountain Hawks took home two second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Bem Kisker, Jack DeVilbiss, Aaron Williams and Timmy Norris finished with a time of 1:32.04.
Williams and Norris were also on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished with a time of 3:08.02 alongside Chase Bearley and Frankie Prekop.
In the dives, Jack Grotke picked up four points for Lehigh with a pair of fourth-place finishes in the one and three-meter dive. In the one-meter dive, Grotke finished with 179.55 points while scoring 159.90 points in the three-meter dive.
