Alexa Rivera from Boynton Beach, Florida has announced her verbal commitment to become a student and a member of the swimming team at Bryant University, Rhode Island, in the fall of 2017.
“I am so excited to announce my commitment to swim for Bryant University. I had many options but I chose Bryant because it’s great history and reputation academically along with the opportunity to contribute right away to the swim program. Coach Katie and the rest of the coaching staff along with the girls from the team treated me really great when I visited in September. I am really anxious to represent the bulldogs with the best of my abilities.” [sic]
Rivera has been a state finalist in each of the past 3 years, representing Oxbridge Academy of the Palm Beaches in the FHSAA 1A Championships. At the most recent state meet, in November 2015, Rivera placed fifth in the 200 IM (2:05.82) and tied for fourth in the 100 back (57.47). Those times earned her recognition as one of the top 16 in Florida’s 2015 FHSAA Championships, all classes combined.
Rivera has trained for the past year and a half with the North Palm Beach Swim Club under coach Alf Aguirre, which she believes has helped her “continue with her progress in the pool.”
Her best SCY times are:
- 200 IM – 2:04.89
- 50 free – 23.89
- 100 free – 52.09
- 50 back – 27.24
- 100 back – 57.23
- 50 fly – 26.85
- 100 fly – 57.70
