Adam Peaty is wrapping up a breakout season in 2014, and the British Sports Journalists Association recognized his success with the 2014 Pat Besford award for Outstanding performance.
The 19-year old Staffordshire native hadn’t won a single major award prior to this year, but he now has a lifetime of honors earned in 2014 alone.
That includes four European titles, including the 50 and 100 breaststroke individually; three silvers at the World Short Course Championships; and two golds and a silver at the Commonwealth Games.
Among those medals, Peaty swam a 26.62 in the 50 long course meter breaststroke to break a five-year old World Record in the event.
Peaty is the first athlete to win an SJA award for swimming since Rebecca Adlington was named the Sportswoman of the Year in 2011.
