Breaststroker Josh Bottelberghe Verbally Commits to Notre Dame

Josh Bottelberghe, a rising senior at Columbia River High School in Vancouver, Washington, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Notre Dame’s class of 2022.

“Notre Dame inspires athletes to be the best they can be in and out of the pool. At Notre Dame, working hard is strengthened by working smart to efficiently develop well-rounded athletes. The supportive coaching staff is eager to help their athletes to achieve their goals. With a beautiful and welcoming campus, it felt like home. I believe Notre Dame swimming has a very bright future, and I am more than excited to be a part of it.”

A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Bottleberghe is the reigning Washington State 2A Champion in the 200 free (1:39.87), 100 breast (55.01), and 200 freestyle relay (21.01 leadoff). His 25.79 breaststroke split on the Columbia River medley relay helped them to a second-place finish. Bottleberghe does his club swimming with Portland Aquatic Club in Oregon. He competed at 2017 U.S. Nationals and World Championship Trials, swimming in the 50/100/200 breaststroke events and snagging PBs in all three (29.34/1:02.42/2:17.52).

Top SCY times:

  • 200 breast – 1:58.78
  • 100 breast – 54.49
  • 400 IM – 3:54.72
  • 200 free – 1:39.87
  • 100 free – 45.37

Bottleberghe will join Márton Barta and Max Miranda in South Bend; both have also announced verbal commitments to the Irish.
