Almost 2 years ago legendary swimming coach Bob Bowman, formerly of North Baltimore Aquatic Club and now Head Coach of Arizona State University, announced he had begun working on a book set to be released late 2015/early 2016.

Now, the coach and mentor of Olympic champions Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt has announced the release date of his work titled The Golden Rules: 10 Steps to World Class Excellence in Your Life and Work, published by St. Martin’s Press. According to Bowman’s own social media accounts, the book can be pre-ordered now on Amazon.com, while the official release date is May 17, 2016. The book is scheduled to be available via hardcover and as a Kindle ebook.

Of particular note for swim enthusiasts is that MP himself has written the foreword to The Golden Rules, although the book’s official Amazon description notes that the motivational book is about “winning in all walks of life”, pointing to its potentially broader audience than just the swimming community.

The primary theme is how to “get gold out of everyday by setting goals and getting motivated to achieve them”.  The premise that “dedication to your training, your job, or whatever area it is that you are seeking to triumph in is paramount for success” is prevalent throughout the motivational book, according to the site description.

Seeing how he has guided the greatest Olympian of all time, Phelps, to a total of 22 Olympic medals, with sights set on a 5th Games, Bowman certainly has built up solid credentials on how to go after goals and achieve optimal success.

The title of the book is best sung to the tune “Golden Years”
or I’ve got too much Bowie on the brain.

Waiting for the Czech edition please.

Golden rule #1. Have Michael Phelps as your athlete. Golden Rule #2. Keep Michael Phelps as your athlete. Golden Rule #3. Smile when in pictures with Michael Phelps.
