The Bellevue Club Swim Team girls were a force on the opening day of racing, winning three of the four individual events on the schedule.
Princeton commit Sophia Sunwoo had a standout swim in the girls’ 100 free, claiming victory in a time of 49.16 to knock a tenth off her lifetime best of 49.26 set over two years ago at the 2022 Winter Junior Championships – West. The swim ranks Sunwoo 20th this season among 17-year-old girls.
Placing 2nd in the event was Bend Swim Club’s Maddie Thornton, a 16-year-old Georgia commit who broke 50 seconds for the first time in 49.97.
In the 200 breast, Bellevue’s Alexa McDevitt topped the field by nearly five seconds in 2:12.68, narrowly missing her personal best of 2:12.60 set in December.
Bellevue’s third win in an individual came from 17-year-old Clare Watson in the 200 fly, as the Stanford commit clocked 1:58.36 to fall just shy of her season-best (1:58.19) set in December. Her lifetime best of 1:57.56 was set in March 2023.
