The Belgian Swimming Federation is sending a roster of 8 swimmers, 6 men and 2 women, to the 2014 World Short Course Championships.
After a banner National Champion meet, the two women will be looking to win their first-ever medal at the short course version of the meet (the men have one in the 200 back from 1993 – the first edition of this meet). Lecluyse broke a National Records at Short Course Nationals earlier this month with a 1:05.90 in the 100 breast; while Buys won the lion’s share of the women’s events.
The men’s roster, meanwhile, will include 3/4 swimmers who took bronze in the short course 200 free relay at last year’s European Championships: Francois Heersbrandt, Pieter Timmers; and Jasper Aerents. Yaris Grandjean, the weakest leg of that relay, won’t make the trip to Doha after not racing at the Belgium Championships.
He’ll be replaced by Glenn Surgeloose on that relay, who was 4th at the Belgian Championships in 49.12.
