Paralympic champion Becca Meyers, recently classed down from S13 to S12, broke a 27-year-old American record in the 50 free in prelims Friday morning. Meyers went 29.23 and didn’t swim the race in finals. The record was previously owned by Trischa Zorn, the most decorated Paralympian in history, and was set in 1992.
Simone Barlaam broke a world record in the men’s race, going 24.63 in the S9 class.
Samantha Tubbs bested her own American record in the SB9 100 breast in Indianapolis Thursday, going 1:22.63. She was over two seconds ahead of China’s Yi Chen, the second-place finisher, who was 1:24.78. SB13 swimmer Colleen Young had posted the fastest time in the field at 1:17.83, with the next-fastest SB13 finisher Martha Ruether clocking a 1:25.75.
SB 6 swimmer Zach Shattuck also set a new American the 100 breast, going 1:25.65. The previous record was 1:26.62. Tharon Drake, himself the American record holder, was the only SB11 entrant, going 1:19.71. SB12 Darvin Baez Eliza and SB14 Tyler Austin were also 1:19s, with the former going 1:19.44 and the latter 1:19.58. Lawrence Sapp, fresh off setting the S14 100 back American record, broke the SB14 100 breast American record in prelims Friday morning, going 1:19.29.
