Ridgefield, Connecticut’s Marcie Maguire has verbally committed to the University of Virginia for the 2017-18 season. A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Ridgefield High School, Maguire specializes in backstroke and sprint free. She is a two-time Connecticut High School Swimmer of the Year, and a Class LL record-holder in the 200 free (1:50.27) and 100 back (54.91), and a State record-holder in the 100 back (54.13).
Maguire led Ridgefield High to the CIAC Class LL team title last season with her record-breaking swims in the 200 free and 100 back, and with contributions to the winning medley relay (26.45 backstroke leadoff) and runner-up 400 free relay (49.86 split). Maguire won the same two individual events at the CIAC Open Championships, setting the State record in the latter with 54.13.
Swimming for Ridgefield Aquatic Club, she qualified for 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 100/200m backstrokes and finished seventh in both events at 2016 Speedo Summer Junior Nationals.
