Ayla Spitz was untouchable this week at the 2018 CIF Sunset League Championships, turning in two big best times and helping out on relays.

Spitz was 48.88 in the 100 and 1:45.44 in the 200, dropping a half second in the 100 and nearly a full second in the 200. The junior was 25.0 leading off Newport Harbor’s 200 medley relay, and added a 49.4 split on their 400 free relay — both relays won.

Fountain Valley’s Hannah Farrow was a double winner as well, posting a 2:00.86 for a six-second win in the 200 IM and a 53.78 to take the 100 fly. Farrow just edged out Sage Matsushima (54.04) or Marina High School.

L0s Alamitos won the meet, however, helped by Sydney Rouse‘s win and runner-up finish. Rouse was 23.15 to win the 50 free, and was also 1:48.04 to finish 2nd in the 200 behind Spitz.

Brandon Toland of Los Alamitos and Grant Brehm of Huntington Beach had sprint free duels in the 50 and 100. Toland edged Brehm in the 50, 20.33 to 20.55, but Brehm got revenge in the 100, winning 45.39 to 45.85.

Edison junior Taylor Whitmore was a double winner, placing first in the boys’ 200 IM (1:52.66) and the backstroke (51.07).

It was Los Alamitos who earned the win on the boys’ side, too.
