Aussie 2017 World C’ships Team Tracker: Day 2 Qualifiers

2017 AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

After day 2 of racing in Brisbane, several additional Australian swimmers punched their qualification ticket to the 2017 World Championships in Brisbane. As a refresher, per Swimming Australia’s selection criteria, a maximum team size of 52 athletes (26 male, 26 female) will be selected for Budapest. First and second place finishers in the ‘A’ final of individual Olympic events in Brisbane qualify for a spot on the roster, provided they swim a time that equals or betters the Swimming Australia qualifying mark listed below:

Interestingly, even amid the stacked talent in the men’s 200m freestyle event tonight, the big shocker aside the fact that Mack Horton took the win that no one notched an Aussie-mandated QT.  However, with finalist Cameron McEvoy having already qualified in the 50m free and Horton having scored his Budapest roster spot in the 400, either of those men could potentially be discretionarily selected for the 200, although Horton says he would rather stick to 400/1500. The same option may be presented to tonight’s silver medalist Kyle Chalmers should he achieve the expected and qualify in the 100m individual freestyle event later on in Brisbane.

Bottom line, with the top 6 finishers in the men’s 200m free all under the FINA A cut, Australia will have a formidable 4x200m freestyle relay.

Here are the Australian swimmers who have notched a qualifying time Day 2, followed by those who earned qualifying marks on Day 1:
