WEST POINT, NY – Army West Point men’s swimming & diving came out victorious over Columbia by a score of 179-119 on Friday night from Crandall Pool.
It marked the final home meet of the campaign for the Black Knights who improved to 4-2 in dual meets this season.
Army got out to a fine start in the individual events, placing the top-three in the 1000 free behind Ian Tansill (9:25.60), Brice Barrieault (9:28.09) and CJ Bernauer (9:30.91).
The Black Kngihts came out on top in the sprints, as Owen Harlow took care of business in the 50 free with a 20.27 time to claim first while Thomas Hadji posted a 45.14 to win the 100 free. Harlow came in at 45.23 in the 100 to secure a one-two finish for Army.
Kalvin Hahn was the lone swimmer to win multiple events, doing so in the 200 breast and 400 IM. In the 200 breast, Hahn came in with a sub-two minute 1:59.80 while Kohen Rankin placed second with a 2:00.57 mark. Bruce Bannister Jr. also medaled in the event coming in third. In the 400 IM, Hahn cruised to another win (3:49.28) with CJ Bernauer’s 3:55.55 being good for second place.
“We came in super hyped up. It started from the ramp clear, then into our walk out – the energy helped us start the meet off right, and it started to build up again towards the end really well.” said Hahn following the meet. “It was a lot of fun to go out there as a team and fight. We wanted to give our Firsties a win for their last meet at home so it was exciting. That was one of the grittiest lineups I have had for a dual meet but with the team’s energy I was able to stay hyped up for each race. The future is looking bright! We have got a great class of us freshmen and I can’t wait to watch this team grow from where it is now.”
Isaac Newman continued to lead the divers, posting a first-place finish in the 1M (321.15) while tabbing second in the 3M (299.10). David Manelis also had a strong showing, placing third in the both events (1M – 321.15, 3M – 285.38).

Individual and overall scores are continuing to fall in the range we’re looking for as we head into championship season and start to really hit our peak. Thomas Hadji paced Army in the 200 free with a 1:38.28, as Wes Tate was just behind in third (1:38.43).
The 100 breast saw Kohen Rankin claim first by almost a full second, coming at 54.45 while Hahn placed third with a 56.45 mark.
Jackson Pogue (1:50.16) and Jack Mowery (1:50.49) each placed top-three in the 200 fly, while Riley Groves led Army in the 100 fly with a 48.96 mark which was good for second place and less than a tenth of a second off the lead.
Army’s relay teams remained strong, taking first-place in both events. The 200 free relay saw the quarter of Harlow, Rankin, Hadji and Ben Vorthmann post a 1:21.66 while the 200 medley relay squad consisting of Rankin, Harlow, Alex Edwards and James Pinter logged the top time with a 1:28.99.

Army will recover this week before heading to Loyola Maryland next Saturday for its final dual meet of the campaign.

WEST POINT, N.Y. — The Columbia men’s swimming and diving team hit the road for its first non-conference meet of the regular season on Friday evening, traveling to West Point to square off against Army. The Black Knights emerged victorious in the meet, beating the Lions 178-119.
“Another tough day for the Lions on the road this afternoon as the Black Knights from West Point put together a strong set of performances and swam away with the victory,” Head Coach Jim Bolster said. “Always disappointing not to get the win, but the guys raced hard. We have a good league meet coming up tomorrow against rival Cornell and I anticipate that we will be able to swim better. We will have to in order to earn the win.”
Adam Wu was the star of the meet for the Lions once again, winning all three events he competed in. He won the 200-free, 500-free, and 200-fly.
Stanford Li also had a great showing, sweeping both backstroke events (100-back and 200-back).
Brian Lee also picked up a win in the 100-fly.
As for the divers, Joseph Nicol’s earned his first collegiate win in the 3m, putting up a score of 327.68. Nicol placed second on the 1m boards with a score of 315.75.
“Great showing for Joe in both events” Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. “He is improving with every single meet we compete in.”

The Lions return home tomorrow and will resume Ivy League competition with a meet against Cornell. The first event is scheduled to begin at approximately 1:00 p.m.
