Anna Egorova Clocks 4:04.10 To Down Russian Record In 400 Free

2021 RUSSIAN NATIONAL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Anna Egorova reclaimed the Russian Record in the women’s 400 freestyle on Day 2 of the nation’s Olympic Trials, winning the event in a time of 4:04.10.

Egorova’s performance takes almost two seconds off of the old mark of 4:06.01, set by Veronika Andrusenko in 2019. Prior to Andrusenko setting the record, Egorova had held it at 4:06.03, done at the 2018 European Championships where she was the bronze medalist.

Egorova Split Comparison

Compared to her swim at the 2018 Euros in Glasgow, Egorova was more aggressive on the front-half tonight, and also managed to close a full .75 faster on the last lap.

Now 22, Egorova placed seventh in the event at the 2019 World Championships in 4:06.16, and then produced a 4:06.58 in December at the French Elite Championships in Saint-Raphael, signalling a big drop was coming.

In addition to qualifying for her first Olympic team, Egorova also moves into second in the world for the 2020-21 season, trailing only Wang Jianjiahe of China (4:03.02).

Placing second and also adding their name to Russia’s Olympic roster was 20-year-old Anastasia Kirpichnikova, who was on Egorova’s tail the whole race en route to placing second in 4:06.26. That swim put Kirpichnikova well under both the FINA ‘A’ cut (4:07.90) and her previous best time (4:08.36), which was set at the same French Elite meet where Egorova went her 4:06.5.
