During the weekend of the 7th and 8th of November 2015, the Czech city of Jihlava hosted swimmers from six European countries for the AXIS Cup, which also served as the 7th round of the Czech Cup. Meet results can be found here.
The Slovak Republic was represented by 19 swimmers from 4 swimming teams.
In the first race on Sunday, the 200m breaststroke, seventeen-year-old Andrea Podmanikova from Pirana sport club Topolcany set a new Slovak record.
She swam a time of 2:26.13 in the short course, 25m, pool, which improved her own record from March, 2015 by 67-hundredths.
By this achievement she also confirmed her participation on European Short Course Swimming Championships in Israel in December.
Besides the 200m breaststroke, Andrea also holds Slovak records on 50m and 100m breaststroke in times of 31.37 and 1:07.86.
This year’s Championships in Israel will become her third senior European Championships. As a fifteen-year-old she participated in Dutch Herning in 2013 for the first time, where she swam disciplines 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke. A year later she participated in the same events, plus the 200m IM, at the European Championships in Berlin.
During two years since the competition in Herning she has managed to improve her time in 200m breaststroke by more than 8 seconds.
It would be funny if she pulled a Nada Higl at the Olympics, just a stupid thought.
