2025 AQUATICS GB SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

University of Aberdeen Swimmer Faye Rogers had a huge swim in the heats of the 200m butterfly on Day 1 of the British Championships in London, chopping a huge chunk of time of her own month-old World Record in the S10 category . That previous mark stood at 2:22.77, set at the WPS World Para Series in Lignano on  March 14th.

Roger’s swam 2:18.93 this morning, slicing off 3.84 seconds to qualify for the ‘B’ final this evening. She was faster on every split in this swim compared to the previous mark, pulling away significantly after the first 50.

Split British Championships, Apr 2025 Lignano Sabbiadoro, Mar 2025
50m 31.42 31.74
100m 1:05.98 (34.56) 1:07.53 (35.79)
150m 1:41.64 (35.66) 1:44.35 (36.82)
200m 2:18.93 (37.29) 2:22.77 (38.42

She swam a smooth race, moving up through the field after touching 7th at the first turn. She pulled away on the third 50, putting a gap of 1.83 seconds between herself and the second placed swimmer in the heat with 50 to go. The gap never narrowed by much as she hung on well down the back stretch.

Her first 100m split was only half a second off her own European record of 1:05.46 in the 100 fly, which she will surely now be targeting later on in the week. The world record in that event belongs to legendary New Zealand Para-swimmer Sophie Pascoe, who’s mark of 1:02.60 has stood since 2016.

Rogers’ is the reigning Olympic champion in that 100m event, having taken gold in Paris with a time of 1:05.84. She won the event at the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships in Manchester as well, where she also took home medals in the 400 free and 200 IM

Initially an able-bodied swimmer, Rogers was involved in a car accident in late 2021 that left her with a fused elbow and limited mobility in her left arm. Having initially been told that she would likely never swim again, she was back in the pool within a year. She is currently studying Biochemistry at the University of Aberdeen, with the goal of becoming a doctor.

Her ‘B’ final swim tonight will take place at 6:09pm GMT (1:09pm ET).
