WASHINGTON – Georgetown University’s men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams earned 20 individual wins en route to a victory over American on Friday night at Reeves Aquatic Center. The men’s team, led by Owen Watkins with two first-place finishes and one second-place finish, beat the Eagles 161-96. The women’s team posted a 148-114 victory led by Kaitlin Lee with two victories.
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
- In the 200 medley relay, Ryan Mathis, Bailey De Luise, Watkins and Troy Keen placed first with a time of 1:32.36.
- Jack Januario and Wilson Tunila finished first and second in the 1000 free with times of 9:37.43 and 9:40.02, respectively.
- In the 200 free, Ronan Krauss (1:43.64) and Connor Jellig (1:44.88) placed first and second.
- Liam Ryan earned first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.52.
- De Luise finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.63.
- In the 50 free Watkins placed first (21.15) while Mathis placed second (21.68).
- Watkins captured first in the 100 free with a time of 45.72.
- In the 200 backstroke, Davis Dunham placed first with a time of 1:56.54.
- Ben Tunila (2:07.76), Jack Brearton (2:09.01) and Ansen Meyer (2:10.13) swept the podium in the 200 breaststroke.
- Januario earned another first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 4:41.51.
- Troy Keen captured first in the 100 butterfly with a time 51.59.
- The Hoyas swept the podium in the 1m and 3m dive. Hirdey Parekh finished first in the 1m (305.40) and the 3m (316.13).
WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
- Lee placed first in the 200 free, with a time of 1:53.70 and the 500 free with a time of 5:10.38.
- Emily Gao captured first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.86.
- Angelica Reali and Genevieve Youngman placed first and second in the 200 butterfly with times of 2:07.79 and 2:09.97, respectively.
- In the 200 backstroke, Allie Sanches and Maddie Haley took first and second with times of 2:06.11 and 2:08.34, respectively.
- Alex Breuer (2:21.67) and Gao (2:25.66) captured first and second in the 200 breaststroke.
- In the 200 IM, Bella Dimaculangan placed first with a time of 2:08.96.
- The Hoyas swept the podium in the 1m and 3m dive. Kathryn Jewell finished first in the 3m dive (253.73) while Cecilia Hanuch was first in the 1m (249.75).

WASHINGTON – Fifth-year Mimi Watts and sophomore Lian Jeong Engle both posted wins in all four of their events, with Watts also setting a pool record for American University swimming & diving in a home meet against Georgetown. The Eagles won eight events in all, including both women’s relays.
Notable
- Watts went 56.02 to set her fifth pool record at American in the 100 backstroke, breaking Lily Koenig’s mark of 56.20 from 2019. Watts also holds the top marks in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly.
- Leading off the day was the women’s 200 medley foursome of freshman Piper Crosby, Watts, freshman Marin Priddy and Jeong Engle with a winning time of 1:45.74, just 0.41 seconds off the pool record. Their finish ranks 11th all-time in program history.
- Watts recorded her second individual victory in the 100 fly with a time of 55.07.
- Jeong Engle took first place in both the 50 free (24.19) and 100 free (53.09). Freshman Grace Gilbert took second in the 50 free in 24.61, and Crosby was third for a 1-2-3 Eagles’ sweep.
- The fourth win for both Watts and Jeong Engle came in the final event, the 200 freestyle relay, as they joined Priddy and fellow freshman Grace Gilbert to take a victory in 1:35.89 that ranks 10th all-time at American.
- Freshman Kate Williams won a close race in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:43.10.
- On the men’s side, senior Daniel Coughlin got a big win in the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.36 which was over two seconds faster than second place.
- Freshman Zachary Rothman made his way on to the top 16 list in the 1,000 freestyle with his third-place finish in 9:40.74 that ranks 11th all-time.
- Junior Colin Clough posted a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 100 free. Freshman Ryan Pursley also placed second twice, doing so in both the 200 back and 200 IM.
- The final team scores had Georgetown winning 148-114 on the women’s side, and 161-96 for the men.
Next Up
- The Eagles head to Loyola Maryland for a noon dual meet on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and will compete in a dual meet at Catholic University on Friday, Oct. 18.
