Lincoln Southwest swept the boys’ and girls’ meets during the 2022 NSAA Swimming Championships over the weekend.

Lincoln Southwest won the boys meet with 394.5 points in what came down to the final 400 free relay. The school defeated Creighton Prep’s 382 points to win its 2nd consecutive title.

The school won the girls’ meet with 294 points. The girls won by just two points, the closest state meet since 2015, when Marian won the meet by .05 points. This is the 6th title in 9 years for the Lincoln Southwest, and the school defeated back-to-back champion Marian.

Boys’ Meet

Lincoln Southwest was certainly aided by the fact it won all three relays. In the 200 medley, the school swam to a meet record of 1:29.37, breaking the earlier meet record that they set during prelims with a time of 1:30.29.

The team consisted of Nebraska commit Mason Schroeder on back (23.62), Kael Mlinek on breast (23.25), Thomas Neil on fly (22.80), and Tommy Palmer on free (19.70).

Later in the meet, Lincoln Southwest cruised to a victory in the 200 free relay, narrowly beating 2nd-place Elkhorn by .28. Lincoln Southwest’s team shifted slightly, with Tyler Reida (21.47), Aidin Kolb (21.12), Schroeder (21.11), and Palmer (20.03) swam to a 1:23.73.

Heading into the last event, Lincoln Southwest was leading overall by just 4.5 points against Creighton Prep. The school’s win solidified Lincoln Southwest as state champions, and the team of Michael Fraley (47.49), Reida (46.93), Mlinek (46.10), and Kolb (44.42) swam to a total time of 3:04.94, dropping almost seven seconds from their prelims time.

Lincoln Southwest also had two individual event winners. Princeton commit Mlinek was a double event winner in the 100 free (44.71) and 100 breast (53.32). Mlinek won the 100 free by a second and a half, and the 100 breast by almost three seconds.

Palmer was the other event winner for Lincoln Southwest, winning the 50 free in 20.10.

There were two other dual individual event winners. Texas commit Nate Germonprez from Westside won the 200 free (1:35.60) and the 100 fly (47.22). In the 200 free, Germonprez broke the meet record he set during prelims at 1:35.73.

John Watson, a Missouri commit from Creighton Prep, won the 200 IM (1:51.58) and the 100 back (49.89). Though Watson added in the 200 IM from prelims, he dropped his 100 back time from prelims to win the event by .17.

Girls’ Meet

Lincoln Southwest relied on its depth to defeat Marian, since the school only won one event: the 50 free, with Bella Livington pulling out a win with a 23.72.

Instead, Marian won the bulk of the events. Molly Von Seggern won the 100 fly (56.53) for Marian, defeating Lincoln Southwest’s Isabella Morales by almost two seconds.
