Energy Standard will enter match eight re-loaded with Sarah Sjostrom, who briefly left Naples for rehabilitation work on her elbow injury back home in Sweden. Energy will also bring back sprinters Florent Manaudou and Femke Heemskerk as relay-only swimmers for this match.
Sjostrom is only entered in freestyle swims today, including both relays and the individual 50 free alongside teammate Fanny Teijonsalo. The versatile Siobhan Haughey will only contest in the 400 free and contribute to the top women’s 4×100 free relay alongside Sjostrom, Heemskerk, and Teijonsalo, who is making her season three debut. In the medley relays, Heemskerk and Sjostrom will anchor both women’s relays. Taking over both the individual 100 fly and the fly legs on the medley relay will be Anastasiya Shkurdai and Maddy Banic.
Manaudou’s presence now completes the full-force Energy men’s relays. Their top 4×100 free relay will feature Chad le Clos, Manaudou, Evgeny Rylov, and Kliment Kolesnikov while Manaudou will anchor the top 4×100 medley relay following Rylov, Ilya Shymanovich, and le Clos.
While Energy’s Manaudou is entered in both men’s relays, so is London’s Kyle Chalmers. Last time the Roar was in the water, Chalmers split a pair of 45s, including one from a flat start. Chalmers will also add the individual 50 free to his schedule alongside match six skins winner Katsumi Nakamura, who will also be on both men’s relays.
Making his season three debut for the LA Current will be Breno Correia, entered in the 200 free alongside Martin Malyutin. Fernando Scheffer swam next to Malyutin in previous matches but will only swim on relays this match. In season one, Correia won the 200 free twice when with the Aqua Centurions.
After struggling in match six, Tokyo has replace their 8th-place individual finishers from last match to better their chances in match eight. Keanna Macinnes will swim the 100 fly alongside Aly Tetzloff following her third-place finish in the 200 fly last match. After swimming relay-only last match, Julie Meynen will take on the women’s 50 free with Catie DeLoof, putting Mallory Comerford in relay-only position. Chihiro Igarashi will take on the women’s 50 breast on top of the 400 free while Kanako Watanbe will only swim the 50 breast.
