Newly-Formed WADA Compliance Review Committee Holds April Meeting

In compliance with the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code, the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) has formed a committee, the Compliance Review Committee (CRC).

The CRC, according to the WADA, has been “tasked with providing independent advice, guidance and recommendations to WADA and its Foundation Board on compliance-related matters. The CRC makes its independent recommendations based on information received from WADA’s internal Compliance Task Force.”

The CRC held a meeting in Montreal on April 5th, 2016, and discussed many topics as the recent doping scandals of over 100 athletes world-wide has made international news. According to the WADA website, the CRC “endorsed procedures related to” the following:

  • The consequences of signatories to be declared non-compliant, and;
  • The “reinstatement” of signatories declared non-compliant that have addressed their outstanding issues.

Additionally, amongst other topics, the CRC discussed the involvement of national federations in the anti-doping cause as well as other compliance-related issues such as “compliance audit programs” and the “compliance questionnaire.”

More details and recommendations by the CRC are scheduled to be announced at the upcoming WADA Foundation Board meeting on May 12th, 2016.
