Darton State College swimmers shine at Day 2 of Collegiate Club National Championships
ATLANTA – Florida’s Sarah Bateman dominated the headlines before the meet, but Darton State College’s two individual swimmers stole the spot light in the finals session this evening at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Here are some of the highlights from Day 2.
- Sarah Bateman
It was no competition when the Olympic veteran stepped up to the block. She won both of her individual events easily, setting multiple meet records at the same time. She touched the wall at 24.56 for the 50 Butterfly and 22.80 for the 50 Free. Sarah also anchored both of the Gators relay, setting meet records in those events as well. - Florida’s Relay
The Gators swept the relays event this evening, taking gold in both the Men and Women 400 Free and 200 Medley relay. The women, led by Sarah Bateman, set meet records in both events (3:38.34 in the 400 Free and 1:50.90 in the 200 Medley Relay). However, Gator were not able gain much ground on Colorado, as the Buffalos finished second in all four relays. - Darton State College
The Cavilers from Darton State made a dramatic entry into the Collegiate National scene with strong performances from Anna Macht and TJ Bland. Anna finished second to Bateman in the 50 Fly, but took home her first individual gold in the 100 Breast, breaking a seven year old meet record with a final time of 1:05.45. Anna also claimed the National title in the 100 Back, setting a new meet record with a final time of 58.80. The race of the night honor goes to TJ Bland, who put up a blistering 54.60 (25.43 split) in the men’s 100 Breast Final. - Colorado’s Depth
The Buffalos, with the help of strong diving results, and depth in all the events, expanded their lead from Day 1. With the strong swims tonight from Ellesse Spaeth, Whitney Fletcher and Kate Booth, they have all but wrapped up the Women’s championship trophy; however, the men’s title is still up for grabs. - Princeton
Princeton University’s captain Michelle Yakubisin was the only Tiger to make the trip to Atlanta, but she made the most of it tonight, claiming Princeton’s first ever medal (silver) behind Colorado’s Kate Booth in the women’s 200 Free final.
Ten meet records were set on Day 2 of the 2013 East Coast Collegiate Swimming & Diving National Championships. Will the records continue to fall on Day 3? Prelim session begins at 9AM.
