Nearly 850 swimmers across 50 clubs are competing at the 2023 Union Cup in Israel this week, with swimmers vying for World Championships, U23 Championships, Komen Games and European Junior Championships qualifying times.
Yoav Romano produced a time of 15:30.23 to take the men’s 1500m freestyle, beating out runner-up Matan Roditi by 8 seconds. The 3rd-place finisher, Maor Gurlnik, clocked a time of 15:47.29 to claim a spot on the consideration roster for the European Junior Championships.
The men’s 100m free saw Alexei Glibinsky get it done for gold in a time of 50.67 while Daniel Kritivsky was next to the wall in 51.04. Michael Poblayev posted a bronze medal-worthy result of 51.09 to gain qualification for the European Junior Championships.
Also earning Euro Juniors qualification was Omer Schwartz. En route to topping the women’s 1500m free podium, Schwartz hit a time of 17:15.50 to lead Eva Fabian‘s runner-up time of 17:24.91.
Additional winners included Romano clocking 1:49.97 in the men’s 200m free while Lior Mizrahi snagged 100m fly gold in 53.57, good enough for the U23 Championships.
