The 2nd day of racing at the 2023 Mission Viejo Pro Swim Series is in the books. This post will highlight some swims that may have flown under the radar in them midst of yesterday’s action.
16-year-old Jillian Crooks kicked things off last night in the 100 free with a victory in the C-final. The Tennessee commit stopped the clock at 56.30, which is a best time by just over a tenth of a second. Crooks’ previous best stood at 56.44, which she swam en route to her victory at the CARIFTA Championship in early April.
15-year-old Sophia Segerson had a fantastic day in the 100 breaststroke. She clocked a personal best time in the morning by a second (1:12.72), then went on to win the C-final in 1:11.54, dropping another second. 18-year-old Caroline Bricker also swam well in the B-final, hitting with a personal best time of 1:10.30 to put her just a hundredth shy of the Olympic Trials cut.
On the men’s side of the 100 breast, 16-year-old Noah Cakir from Team Suffolk threw down a 1:02.84 to win the B-final. He dropped nearly a second in prelims to qualify in 9th (1:03.70), then shaved more time off last night to drop 1.77 on the day. His time moves him to #26 on the all-time rankings for 15-16 boys.
Elise Clift from Mansfield Aquatic Club dominated the B-final of the women’s 400 freestyle to win in 4:16.08. Her swim is a best time by three tenths of a second, with her previous best being from Futures last summer. The 16-year-old closed in 1:03.10, with her last 50 being a 30.86. Caroline Riggs took 2nd in the heat in 4:21.02, also good for a personal best.
The B-final of the men’s 400 freestyle also had some strong performances. Leading the way Graham Chatoor, who touched first in a best time of 4:57.45. Joining him under the 4-minute barrier was Arizona’s Mason Nyboer, who clocked a best time of 3:59.44. Nyboer moved from being entered at the 36th seed, to finishing 10th overall with a four second drop.
Jillian Crooks pushing hard to be the long course sibling ‼️ Jordan better work that 35-50m. Jokes aside, exciting to think about where she might be at 20 if she’s a 56 low now. Every article seems to be another PR if not two.
16 year old sophomore Noah Cakir will make trials in the 200 breast and 400 IM
damn for bricker, hopefully she can get the trials cut soon
