2017 World Junior Championships Semi-Finalist Cecilie Wiuff Commits to Purdue

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Danish swimmer Cecilie Wiuff has verbally committed to Purdue University, where she intends to enroll in the fall of 2021.

“I’m incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to Purdue University! I choose Purdue because I believe it’s the right place for me and because of the great opportunities available for academics and athletics. I’m happy to be a part of the family and 2021 can’t come fast enough! Boiler up!”

Wiuff, who will turn 21 in the same year that she begins her college career, trains with the A6 Swim Team under Jon Langberg. Langberg was a member of the Danish World Championship team in 2019, and recently left A6 to take over as the head coach of the Danish National Training Center.

Wiuff, who is primarily a butterflier, represented her country at the 2017 World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis. Her best finish there was 16th place in the semi-finals of the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.19.

Her times in her primary butterfly events have stagnated in recent seasons, with her long course bests in all the 100 and 200 fly coming from 2017. In the interim she’s made some progress in a few relay-centric freestyle races.

Best Times in LCM, SCY Conversions

LCM SCY (Conversion)
50 free 27.61 24.15
100 free 58.93 51.64
200 free 2:10.04 1:54.27
50 fly 27.61 24.24
100 fly 1:00.48 53.22
200 fly 2:14.76 1:58.88

To this point in her career, Wiuff has shown much better times in long course than short course.

The Purdue women finished 7th out of 13 teams at last year’s Big Ten Championship meet, just 15 points behind Minnesota. The butterfly events were a relative strength for Purdue, with a talented group of freshmen. Mallory Jump won the B-final at her first Big Ten Championship meet in the 100 fly, while fellow freshman Lindsay Turner was 18th.

If Wiuff can recapture her top form of 2017, and can prove that she has the short course mettle that she does in long course, she will enter Purdue as a probable A-finalist in her first season.
