13-Year-Old Spaniard Rebeca Probert Breaks Olympians National Age Record in the 100 Fly

XI Cto. de España Alevín

13-year-old Rebeca Probert Rey broke two National Age Records among five such marks at the 11th Cto. de España Alevín last weekend in Ciudad Real – an age group national championship meet.

Probert won the 100 fly in 1:03.05, just ahead of fellow 13-year-old Angela Roncero Navarro, who touched 2nd in 1:03.15. The two were stroke-for-stroke the entire race, and both slid under the old age records for 13 year olds set in 2007 by Judit Ignacio, who went on to win European Championship medals and represent Spain at the Olympic Games.

That time ranks Probert 38th in Spain this season, even at only 13 years old, and 108th all-time in the country’s history.

Probert also set the Spanish Age Record in the 50 fly final, winning more comfortably this time in 28.58. That breaks the 2023 vintage record of 28.78 that was set by Carla Pera Mulero.

She was one of three swimmers to set National Age Records at the meet. 12-year-old Duro Lozano Alvaro set records in the boys’ 50 free (26.02) and 100 free (57.18). He won the shorter race, and had the fastest time among 12 or 13-year olds; he also won the 100 free for 12-year-olds, though added time in the final to finish in 57.62.

His times cleared the RFEN’s benchmark times (there was no prior record holder, officially).

The other record-setting performance came in the girls’ 50 backstroke, where Marta Diaz-Jarguin Zoffmann swam 31.67. That swim likewise cleared the RFEN benchmark time of 31.70, making her the first official record-holder in the country.
