At Championship meets, swimmers may enter as many qualified events as desired, but may only compete in a total of 7 individual events during the entire meet.
Fiji Looking for Oceanic Games Sponsor…..With the announcement that Fiji was selected as host of the 2016 Oceania Swimming Championships, provided the event received Fiji government support, the Fiji Swimming Association is now in search of sponsors for the event. The competition features countries such as New Zealand, Australia and Samoa and is held every two years, with the most recent edition having taken place in Auckland, New Zealand in May of 2014. While Association VP Viliame Takayawa says that the state has agreed to provide upgrades to the swimming facilities, the more pressing issues of accommodation, meals and traveling costs would need additional monetary assistance from would-be sponsors.
Natural Pool Planned For Berlin…..A project is underway in Berlin, Germany to convert an unused canal into a public swimming site. The Flussbad, located in the city’s historical center, is a 1.5km long unused river path that has remained abandoned for the past 100 years. The idea is to fill the canal with filtered water, then have a constructed wetland inserted to purify running water naturally. The northern shore wall would be completely removed, being replaced with an inner city green area and preliminary water purifier. It would serve as a wildlife refuge as well. Timing is to be determined on the proposed project.
