MEN’S 100 FREESTYLE – FINALS

Meet record: 48.05, Nathan Adrian (USA)
American record: 47.33, David Walters
Australian record: 47.05, Eamon Sullivan
Canadian record: 47.27, Brent Hayden
Japanese record: 48.49, Takuro Fujii
Australia All-comers record: 47.10, James Magnussen (AUS)

Cameron McEvoy blew away Nathan Adrian’s Pan Pacs meet record from this morning with his time of 47.82. He dropped .67 seconds from his morning swim to earn the gold medal, touching ahead of Nathan Adrian and James Magnussen. Adrian finished second with his time of 48.30, just ahead of Magnussen in third at 48.36.

Michael Phelps had a much better race than he did at the US National Championships. He finished fourth overall with his time of 48.51. That time bumps him ahead of Ryan Lochte and gives him the second individual 100 freestyle spot on the 2015 World Championship team.
Nicolas Oliveira of Brazil had the fifth fastest time in the A-final of the men’s 100 freestyle at 48.69.

Brazil’s Marcelo Chierighini won the B-final of the men’s 100 freestyle with his time of 48.68 and Matthew Abood of Australia was second at 49.17. Anthony Ervin finished third with his time of 49.20.

Nathan Adrian and Michael Phelps will have the individual 100 freestyle roster spots for the 2015 World Championships. Ryan Lochte and Jimmy Feigen will have the third and fourth relay spots at World Championships.

Was there suppose to be a 100 free race video? 🙂

So mixed bag results on the taper question. Clearly, McEvoy got significantly faster here than in Glasgow.

But Magnussen…we’re so used to him not swimming fast in the big meets now that no one evens seemed to notice. Remember back in February when Magnussen could break 47 any time he wanted to (he broke the mark 3 times I can find, including the still world-leading 47.59)? Or even Aussies Nationals when he broke 47 three times, but went slower in each round?

Yet at Pan Pacs and Commonwealths combined (5 swims) he hasn’t broken 48.10.

For that matter, Adrian has added in finals the past 2 meets, despite looking so good at Mare Nostrum and at Grand Prixes.

Well I suppose conditions played a part at the Pan Pacs final…maybe McEvoy could have been 47.6 again.

Maggie needs to get away from SOPAC . He & coach should take a few others & set up maybe northern beaches in Sydney . Everybody starts off good at SoPac but it just drags you down.

Its The Mothership of Aquatic Centres. Totally expect to see Darth Vader come put in his speedos.

When are they going to publish the full race?

Mcevoy has quickly turned into my favorite swimmer. I guess I just have a preference for 100/200 freestylers.

Nice pic! Cameron looks so tiny beside these big men, hehe. It’s also great to see Adrian and Magnussen to smile at the same picture. 😀 They all look lovely.
