Distance freestyler and cross-country runner Colleen Daday, from Allentown, Pennsylvania, has given her verbal commitment to swim for the University of Pittsburgh in 2016-17. Daday competes for Allentown Central Catholic High School, and is a member of Parkland Aquatic Club as well.
Daday specializes in the longer end of the freestyle spectrum, and has achieved the Winter Juniors time standard in the 1500m free. Her best times over the last two years have included:
SCY | LCM | |
1650/1500 | 16:59.04 | 17:19.78 |
1000/800 | 10:10.11 | 9:05.21 |
500/400 | 4:57.97 | 4:28.15 |
200 free | 1:53.18 | 2:09.04 |
200 back | 2:06.80 | 2:26.10 |
Daday will add value when she first suits up as a Panther, both in dual meets and at the conference level. While the distance races at the 2015 ACC Women’s Championships were dominated by Virginia, Pitt had a few nice performances, especially from 1650 A-finalist Kaleigh Ritter (now a senior) and B-finalist Amanda Richey (now a sophomore). Daday’s time would have placed her near the top of the “C” final. The Panthers had two additional finalists in the 500 free; it took 4:53.0 to earn a second swim.
Daday will begin her collegiate career with Canada’s Valerie Daigneault, who has also given the Panthers a verbal commitment.
