Buffalo, N.Y. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams concluded the third day of the new four day format in the 2015 Men’s & Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center in Buffalo, New York.
After the third day of competition, the Rider University men’s team retained its’ first place status totalling 473.5 points. Marist College stands in second place with 391 points, while third place Saint Peter’s University registered 350 points. Canisius College followed, totaling 331 points, and Iona College is fifth with 247 points. In sixth place is Bryant University with 225.5 points, seventh is Niagara University with 205, eighth is Manhattan College with 179 points and Fairfield stands ninth with 146 points.
Marist College’s women’s team added to their lead after day three, totaling 609 points. In second place is Canisius College with 374 points, while Rider has 324.5 points to stand third. Saint Peter’s University has 291 points and is in fourth place, while Siena stands in fifth with 276 points. Iona College holds sixth place with a total of 274. Following in seventh is Fairfield University with 219 points, eighth is Niagara University with 216 points and ninth, with 119.5 points, is Manhattan College.
The Rider University men added to their lead in day three totaling 473.5 points, Zachary Molloy has been a major part of their success. Molloy, a freshman, placed first in the 200 yard freestyle, with a time of 1:38.32, less than a tenth of second in front of his brother William Molloy. Saint Peter’s men’s team continued their strong performance at the 2015 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships with two first place finishes, one in the 400 yard IM, and another victory in the 400 yard medley relay. Peacock sophomore, Jonathan Gomez, is the men’s 400 yard individual medley champion, registering a time of 3:52.34. Gomez was also part of the first place 400 medley relay team along with Manuel Garcia, Bence Greifenstein and Igal Oren. Shane Baxter of Niagara University had two individual first place finishes. Baxter is the men’s 100 yard backstroke champion and 100 yard butterfly champion, with times of 49.62 and 48.95 respectively. Marist College sophomore, Ryan Murphy, is the 1000 yard freestyle champion, with a MAAC record breaking time of 9:07.38.
On the women’s side, Marist College continued their dominant performance winning four events on day three. Karly Haraden, a Marist freshman, is the champion in women’s 1000 yard freestyle. Isabella Morreale placed first in the women’s 100 yard breaststroke with a time 1:03.91. The Red Foxes took first place in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:49.32, featuring Morreale, Georgia Goldman, Bethany Powhida and Meredith Wurtz. In the women’s 3-meter dive, Marist took the two top spots. Renata Diotalevi is the 3-meter champion scoring 263.80 points on the diving board, while Megan Berardelli came in second with a score of 255.75. Saint Peter’s University sophomore Matea Samardzic is the 100 yard backstroke champion, with a MAAC record breaking time of 54.45.
