Quinn Risley is going to be a Hawkeye. The class of 2015 sprint-freestyler will add speed to the Hawkeye sprints, especially when he starts to train year round.
Risley competes at the club level for the Academy Bullets of Aurora, Illinois and Riverside-Brookfield High School.
His fastest times include a 20.74 in the 50 free and 46.59 in the 100 free.
He qualified for third in the A final at the IHSA boys state meet with a time of 20.99. He took fifth in finals with a time of 21.05. He also was 18th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.72. his 50 freestyle from the state meet would be good for third on the Hawkeye team at this point in the season.
Risley has not always trained year round, so when he does he should see a significant time drop.
He has qualified for Summer Junior Nationals with a 23.93 in the long course 50 free.
Other times include:
100 m free: 53:78
200 m free: 2:02.43
100 m breast: 1:10.10
100 m fly: 57.92
If those long course stroke times can translate to short course and improve, Risley could make an impact for the Hawkeyes down the road, especially when breaststroke specialist Roman Trussov graduates in 2016.
Note: in the original publishing of this article, the author, Ian Murphy, incorrectly reported the fastest times for Quinn Risley in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle. His fastest times are 20.74 and 46.59 in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle respectively. These updated times are from the 2014 IHSA Boys Sectionals meet. The author regrets the error.
Where’s the best times? 🙁 these are not updated.
