Two swimmers in the same state, but with the way the LSC’s are laid out, Vinny Marciano and Destin Lasco nary have the opportunity to race head-to-head.
But on paper, their backstroke battle rages on. Last night, we posted that Lasco was a 24.56 (video here) to break Marciano’s National Age Group Record in the 50 backstroke set a day earlier.
However, as it turns out, both swimmers went 24.56 on Sunday evening. Marciano did so in leading off the Morris County 200 medley relay as he combined with Matt Morena, (34.13), Zack Crowe (28.13) and Jonathan Chen (26.05) to win that race in a total 1:52.87 – just half a second off of the 1982 LSC Record.
Of course, every record is semi unofficial until it’s ratified, and while relay leadoffs can be even dicier, everything points to this being a legitimate record-breaking split.
Will they both be attending the Eastern Zone Age Group Champs at the end of the month,
Congratulations to both of these young gentlemen for their outstanding performances this past weekend!!
