Tennessean Alli Lapps Commits to George Washington University

Alli Lapps will head to Washington, DC next Fall to join the Colonials at George Washington University. Lapps, a member of Pilot Aquatic Club, in Knoxville Tennessee, is a two-time Tennessee State Championship finalist in the 100-yard backstroke (2013-14 & 2014-15 seasons). At the 2014-15 Tennessee State Championships, Lapps placed 3rd in the 100-yard backstroke finals, putting up a time of 57.30. Lapps will graduate from L&N Stem Academy in the spring of 2016.

Lapps’ best times are as follows:

  • 50-yard backstroke: 27.13
  • 100-yard backstroke: 56.89
  • 200-yard backstroke: 2:04.36
  • 100-yard butterfly: 58.61

After deciding on George Washington, Lapps said, “I chose George Washington because it provides me the top notch athletics and academics I’ve been searching for. I immediately fell in love with the team and the coaches on my visit. Also, being in the heart of DC will provide me with so many unique opportunities.”

Lapps will be a good asset to the team as her 100-yard backstroke would have placed her in the finals at the conference championships last spring and will also contribute to the 4×100-yard medley relay. The Colonials are in Division I and compete in the Atlantic-10 Conference. The women’s swimming team is led by coach James Winchester, who will serve his first year as the program’s head coach this season, and assistant, Katie Stefl.
