George Washington University Names James Winchester New Head Coach

Former Utah Utes coach James Winchester has been named the head coach of the swimming and diving program at George Washington University.

Winchester, a two-time NCAA Assistant coach of the Year Honorable Mention, has plenty of experience to bring to the program. Winchester has been coaching for 11-years now and has coached internationally with Olympians, World Championship qualifiers, and more.

Winchester first came onto the college scene in 2006 when he served as an assistant coach at Drury University. There, he got a taste for winning when his women’s team won the 2007 DII title, and his men’s team won both the 2007 and 2008 titles. Prior to his coaching career he swam at Louisville.

His experience is expected to help grow the program. Last season, their only win came in a dual meet against Howard University where they won 86-72.

This past season at the Atlantic 10 Championships, the George Washington women finished 11th out of 11 teams, with the men finishing seventh out of eight teams.

They have a very young team with only two seniors leaving, giving Winchester a lot of room to develop the swimmers over the next few years.
