In Brief —Senior Zoe Spitz made it a very special Senior Day, breaking the school record in the 200 backstroke as Rice rolled to a 144-57 dual victory over Tulane on Friday at the Rice Competition Pool. The Owls saluted seniors Adalyn Armistead, Shannon Campbell, Chloe Corbitt, Maddy Howe, Kate Jablonski, Sini Koivu, Ahalya Lettenberger, Lauren McDougall, Virginie Qian, Sophie Reilly and Spitz.
Details—Spitz broke Ellery Parish’s record of 1:56.61 set in 2019 by touching the wall in 1:55.77, the last of four winning efforts by seniors on their special day. McDougall won both the 100 and 200 freestyles and Koivu led the field in the 200 breast, leading an effort that saw the Owls win all 11 events. Sophomore Arielle Hayon won the 50 free and the 200 butterfly, Imogen Meers took the 200 IM, Amelia Kane finished first in the 500 free and freshman Ella Dyson outpaced the field in the 1,000 free.
Seth Huston—” My immediate impression is we had a lot of really good energy, had a lot of people swimming faster than they did a couple of weeks ago (at the Fall Splash). When I take a little more time to break today down, I’ll be looking at how we executed our races, our turns, and a lot of the little details that we’ve been working on, but I am pretty happy with the day overall.”
Up Next—Rice will be racing again in two weeks when they compete in the annual Phill Hansel Invitational at the University of Houston, November 17-19.

Houston – The Tulane swimming and diving team fell to Rice 59-144 on Friday. The Green Wave recorded eleven top-three finishes in the loss.
“Our women did a great job of stepping out of their comfort zones to race this evening,” head coach Amanda Cadwell said. “From some nontraditional events for some, to quick turnarounds for others, they arose to the challenge and all after a tough two-week training block. The majority were faster than a month ago and set up for some good performances tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing them compete in the shorter events, the mile, and 400 IM, and celebrate our Senior diver, Gabby.”
For the second meet in a row, Danielle Titus took home a podium finish in the 200 backstroke (2:02.49). The senior also recorded a time of 2:10.38 in the 200 IM.
Finishing right behind her in the 200 backstroke was Grace Dale with a time of 2:03.34. Dale also found herself in second with a time of 24.04 in the 50 free.
Some other notable finishes included Gianna Spremullo (2nd, 200 IM) (3rd, 200 breaststroke), Riley Hendrix (3rd,100 Free), Sydney Mullin and Elena Gingras placing second and third respectively in the 500 free, and Autumn Keats-O’Connor (2nd, 200 breaststroke).
The relays came to compete finishing third in the 200 medley and placing teams in both second and third in the 400 freestyle.
The Green Wave returns to action tomorrow Nov. 5 at the Houston November Invite.
