Winter Juniors Qualifier Sierra Snow Sends Verbal To Army West Point (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sierra Snow of Ijamsville, Maryland has announced her verbal commitment to swim and study at the United States Military Academy at West Point. She’s currently a junior at Oakdale High School, and is set to graduate in the spring of 2024.

I am so excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the United States Military Academy at West Point! I would like to thank my family, friends, and coaches for their love and support through this process. Go Army! 🇺🇸”

Snow trains and competes year-round with Fox Swim Club in Frederick, Maryland. Her event focus is mainly on backstroke, as she owns a Winter Juniors time in the 200 back and a Futures cut in the 100 back.

Snow’s best time in the 100 backstroke is from the Maryland LSC Senior Championship this past February. She stopped the clock at 56.35 in prelims, which is about a tenth quicker than her previous best from December. At the Maryland LSC Senior Championship, Snow also recorded best times in the 50 free (24.67) and 50 back (26.27).

She also had a fantastic meet in December at the Hoki Swim and Tri Winter Championships. Snow dropped over a second in the 200 backstroke to dip below the 2:00-barrier for the first time for a 1:59.22, good for 1st overall. She also won the 100 backstroke (56.48) and placed 5th in the 200 IM (2:10.96).

Top SCY Times:

  • 50 free – 24.67
  • 100 free – 53.80
  • 50 back – 26.27
  • 100 back – 56.35
  • 200 back – 1:59.22

Army competes in the Patriot League, where they finished 2nd out of 10 teams this year at the Patriot League Championships. Army is led by head coach Brandt Nigro, who recently wrapped up his 3rd season at the helm of the program.

Snow’s best time in the 200 backstroke would have made her the 2nd-fastest performer for Army last season. Freshman Layne Peterson led the way with a 1:57.57, which she swam in prelims at the Patriot League Championships. Peterson was also the top performer in the 100 backstroke, owning a season best time of 55.14, while sophomore Maddie Clark was next best at 56.37. Both Peterson and Clark will still be on campus when Snow arrives, which will build depth for Army in the backstroke events.

Snow joins Hadley King and Cambell Payton in West Point’s class of 2028. King and Payton were notably the first two first public commitments in the class of 2024. Payton is a mid-distance freestyler, while King swims free, fly, and IM events.

Just checked their commitments and Army women have got a solid 6 for the 2024 class. Navy women no doubt taking a hit losing two long time coaches
