After Bill Jewell was unsuccessful in his wrongful termination lawsuit against the Fullerton Aquatics Sports Team, there’s a logical next question to be answered. If the courts took into strong consideration assertions by FAST that Jewell violated the USA Swimming Code of Conduct, and specifically “inappropriate comments of a sexual nature to and around athletes,” it would lead one to believe that there is more to this story.
Ceci Christy reached out to USA Swimming’s Susan Woessner, the Director of their Safe Sport program, as to whether USA Swimming was investigating Jewell. Woessner’s response was simply that “USA Swimming cannot comment on an open investigation.”
So as not to misconstrue the comment, that is not an outright confirmation; however, it is not the denial that one might expect if there was no active investigation.
There is also the matter of a separate wrongful termination suit against the Golden West Swim Club, where Dia Rianda says that she was fired for issuing similar-sounding complaints about Jewell’s behavior. That case is still pending in California courts.
We will continue to follow these stories, and update them as new information becomes available.
