The 2025 Chinese National Spring Swimming Championships wrapped up last night from Qingdao with additional impressive performances being put up ahead of May’s World Championship Trials.
Leading the way was 20-year-old Wan Letian who unleashed a big-time personal best of 27.09 to take the women’s 50m backstroke.
Wan beat the field by nearly a second, with the next-closest competitor represented by Qian Xinan who touched in 28.03.
Entering this competition, Wan’s career-quickest result was represented by the 27.41 logged at the 2023 Asian Games for silver. That means she sliced .32 off en route to gold, becoming the 3rd-best Chinese swimmer in history.
Wan’s 27.09 renders her the 4th-fastest woman ever in this 50m back event.

I read that she is currently training under Michael Bohl.
Wan Letian+ Tang Qianting+ Zhang Yufei + Yang Junxuan for women’s mixed relay
Yang Junxuan + Li Bingjie + Tang Muhan + Liu Yaxin for 4*200 freestyle relay (Yang Peiqi and Ge Chutong)
Yang Junxuan + Wu Qingfeng + Cheng Yujie + Zhang Yufei for 4*100 freestyle (Yu Yiting and Libingjie)
China will never be a major contender in women medley unless the pool is 100m long. It is no coincident that their weakest stroke for both sexes are back because of the weak turn with the exception of Xu.
stg i feel like china pulls up the most random crazy 50 back times at the most random times when its not
If 🇨🇳 had a 58 s backstroker, Tang Qianting can play his full strength in the relay (her single item has been 1:04 is very close to the world record. But her relay section is only 1:05 or even 1:06, potential to be tapped), Zhang Yufei can continue to swim to the 55S + relay segment, plus Yang Junxuan’s 51. 96 segment 🇨🇳 may have a chance to hit the women’s mixed relay champion
