Wagner overtook Saint Francis this weekend, 148-114. The Seahawks managed to break 4 pool records in the process. The 200 medley relay was the first to go. They followed that up with school and pool records by Katja Claesson in the 200 breast (2:23.61), Anu Nihipali in the 100 back (56.13), and Amanda Lucia in the 200 fly (2:06.27).
Wagner:
Loretto, PA – The Wagner women’s swimming & diving team swam past Saint Francis University 148-114 this afternoon, while shattering four pool records in the process.
Wagner’s 200 Medley Relay Team consisting of junior’s Anu Nihipali (Honolulu, HI/Hawaii Preparatory Academy), Katja Claesson (Fullerton, CA/Troy), senior Amanda Lucia (East Hampton, MA/East Hampton) and freshman Dorian McMenemy (Northborough, MA/Algonquin Regional) started the afternoon taking first place honors while breaking the first pool record of the day, posting a time of 1:46.11.
Claesson, Lucia and Nihipali paced the Seahawks, each winning all of their individual events and also each broke a school record. Claesson took first place in the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.47) and the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:23.61 which shattered the previous pool record.
Nihipali took first place honors in the 200 Backstroke, touching the wall in a time of 2:07.59, which was more than five seconds faster than the second place finisher, teammate Kaitlin Murtha (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield). The Hawaii product broke the pool record en route to her third victory of the day in the 100 Backstroke, posting a time of 56.13.
Lucia took the pool record in the 200 Butterfly, touching the wall in a time of 2:06.27, more than four seconds faster than the second place finisher, Saint Francis’s Emma Karell. The senior remained undefeated on the day when she finished first in the 100 Butterfly, recording a time of 58.45.
Senior Maggie Shaw (Chantilly, VA/Chantilly) finished first in the 1,000 Freestyle, finishing her race by more than pool length in recording a time of 10:40.58. She then took second place in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:09.80.
Wagner returns to competition next week, as the Seahawks travel to Piscataway, NJ for the two-day Frank Elm Invitational hosted by Rutgers. Day one of competition begins on November, 20. The time is still to be determined.

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team dropped a 148-114 decision on Saturday afternoon at the Stokes Natatorium. The Red Flash is now 5-6 overall and 1-3 in NEC conference meets.
Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) broke two poll records en route to winning the 200-yard Freestyle, 50-yard Freestyle and 500-yard Freestyle. Lafferty broke a pool record of 1:53.27 in the 200-yard Freestyle, and broke a pool record with a time of 24.05 in the 50-yard Freestyle. In the 500-yard Freestyle, Lafferty finished with a pace of 5:09.20.
The combination of Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), Catherine Rodgers, Paige McLean (Bolton, Ontario/St. Michael Catholic Secondary) and Jessica Reilly placed second in the 200-yard Medley Relay, with a time of 1:45.70.
Rodgers finished in second place in the 100-yard Breaststroke, with a time of 1:06.38. Emma Karell(Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) finished with three top-two finishes; placing second in the 200-yard Butterfly with a time of 2:10.96, second place finish in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:25.88 and second in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:13.06.
Jessie Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) finished in first place in the 100-yard Freestyle with a time of 53.79.
Tiberino and McLean finished second and third in the 100-yard Butterfly with times of 59.76 and 1:00.11.
Saint Francis set a pool record in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay as Catherine Rodgers, Reilly, Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Lafferty combined for a pace of 1:37.64.
Wagner broke four pool records in the 200-yard Medley Relay, 200-yard Butterfly, 100-yard Backstroke and the 200-yard Breaststroke.
SFU returns to action on Nov. 20 at the Cleveland State Magnus Cup.
