Young Superstar Katie Ledecky is out for this weekend’s USA Swimming National Championships after contracting a viral illness a few days ago. She had a heavy cough and a high fever, and though she is on the path to recovery, she and her parents decided that it would be best if she sat this one out.

The good news is that Ledecky, who recently broke the 500 and 1000 yard 13-14 National Age Group Records, is only 14-years old, though she’s already one of the best distance swimmers in the country. This means that she will have plenty of other opportunities to swim and demonstrate to the world her true prowess.

Ledecky specifically wanted to wish all swimmers attending the meet the best of luck this weekend, and we wish Katie the same in her recovery.

Very bad news! It’s sad for her and for her fans. She must be angry because I think it would have been the first time she would have swum against the big names. I follow her career since last winter and she has a tremendous talent. I wish her a very fast recovery. She will be the girl to watch with Missy Franklin at the next olympic trials. It’s perhaps a little soon for her but with a young swimmer and a big training we know how fast the progression can be fast.
