Berry College Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving are pleased to announce that Catie Schmitz will be joining the teams this fall as the new Graduate assistant.
Ms. Schmitz will also be pursuing her Master’s degree in Business Administration during her two year stint at Berry. Schmitz comes to Viking Swimming and Diving after completing her Bachelors of Business Administration degree, majoring in Marketing and minoring in Fashion Merchandising at Georgia Southern University and swimming for the Lady Eagles–an NCAA Division I institution in Statesboro, GA..
“Catie is going to be an exceptional addition to not only our program and the athletic department, but to Berry College as well,” said Vikings’ head Coach Paul Flinchbaugh. “Her experiences with both competitive swimming at the division 1 level and prior club coaching make her a perfect candidate for this position with a wealth of knowledge to draw from”
Schmitz, a middle distance specialist, swam predominantly Breaststroke and Individual medley while at Georgia Southern. During her senior year she also competed to the 100 and 200 yard Backstroke events for the lady Eagles. As a Student-Athlete Schmitz was honored as a CCSA; Coastal Carolina Swimming Association, All Conference Academic Scholar each of her eight semesters swimming with the Eagles as well as Deans list seven of eight semesters and Presidents list her final three semesters.
“I am very excited about my new role coming into the Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving program as an assistant. I am eager and enthusiastic to learn more from a knowledgeable coach and contribute the swimming love and passion that I have with the team” Commented Schmitz. “I didn’t know if the possibility of finding another college environment to call my home was out there but when I stepped on the Berry campus, that thought was changed. I can’t wait to meet my future team and get started on another great and successful Viking Swimming and Diving year!”
Catie is the daughter of Richard and Deborah Schmitz of Stafford, VA. During her High School years she represented North Stafford High School where she earned four varsity letters, was a Team captain, holds school records in the 200 IM and 200 Medley Relay, Earned All-District, All-Regional and All-State honors, was a National Honor Society member and graduated Summa Cum Laude… in her spare time Catie Swam for the Rappahannock Area YMCA Stingrays.
