VIDEO INTERVIEW: Kierra Smith talks Minnesota Gophers and Canadian anthem

Minnesota’s Kierra Smith currently leads the NCAA in the 200 breaststroke, and she had a chance to catch up with SwimSwam after her Gophers blew out North Dakota Friday night.

Smith, who finished 6th at NCAAs in the 200 breast last season, is off to a fast start in her junior season. She got to swim some off-events Friday, including the 50 fly, in the team’s 215-81 win over UND.

You might also know Smith as the breakout selfie-taking star from this Swimming Canada video put together last April.

In the video above, Smith talks about her season so far, plus her big summer that included successful trips to the Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships as a member of Canada’s National Team.

And of course, Smith sheds some light on the pressing question of just exactly who got the Canadian national anthem added to Minnesota’s pre-meet festivities that also includes this awesome pump-up video.
