USC men’s water polo has two Trojans tabbed as potential candidates for collegiate water polo’s highest honor — the Peter J. Cutino Award — with the naming of Robert Lopez Duart and Max Miller to the 2024 Cutino Award Watch List. It’s the second such selection for both standouts, who are USC’s top scorers this season for the 15-2 Trojans.

In his fifth season as a Trojan, center Max Miller has earned his repeat spot on the Watch List by crossing the 100-career goal mark at USC with his 32 goals so far in 2024, along with 37 drawn exclusions to date. A First Team All-American last year, Miller is USC’s second leading scorer this year.
Topping USC’s scoring list in 2024 is newcomer Robert López Duart, who was also named to the Cutino Watch List as a freshman last season at Long Beach State. López Duart has been a quick fit into the Trojan gameplan this season, boasting 34 goals and also leading the team in assists and steals.
In its third year, the Cutino Award Watch List is a collaboration between USA Water Polo, The Olympic Club and the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). Twenty male athletes, as submitted by varsity college coaches around the country, are recognized for their excellent play. The Watch List is completely independent from the nomination and voting process for the Cutino Award, as that honor will acknowledge the full impact of the 2024 season. A women’s Cutino Award Watch List will be released in Spring 2025.
