USC freshman Emily Ausmus has now scored the third-most single-season goals by a Trojan after tallying nine goals across USC’s two wins over the weekend. For her efforts, she now has her sixth MPSF Newcomer of the Week award to her name, having won it for a third consecutive week wit this week’s pick.
Ausmus scored three goals, adding three field blocks, an assist and a steal in USC’s 13-9 MPSF road win at No. 5 Cal. The next day, she stuck a career-high six goals in a 23-9 win over Brown, with two steals and another assist in that one. She has scored in all 24 games for the 23-1 Trojans, with multiple goals scored in 23 games.
Ausmus not only has the record for most goals scored by a USC true freshman, she now ranks No. 3 all-time in single-season goals with 84 scored so far. Now with six MPSF Newcomer of the Week selections, Ausmus is just one behind fellow Trojan Olympian Paige Hauschild, who earned the honor seven times as a freshman in 2018.
Ausmus and her No. 2 Trojans now have a chance to avenge their only loss of the year when USC hosts Stanford at 1 p.m. on Saturday (March 29) at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
Nice, something to look forward to if they play it on plus.espn.com. That would be cool.
