USA Women Return To Win Column In Rio With 11-5 Victory Over China

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – November 15 – The USA Women’s Senior National Team bounced back from a loss to Australia on Saturday with an 11-5 win over China earlier today. Maggie Steffens (Danville, CA/Stanford/NYAC), Kiley Neushul (Goleta, CA/Stanford/Santa Barbara), Kami Craig (Santa Barbara, CA/USC/Santa Barbara) and Ashley Grossman (Santa Monica, CA/Stanford/NYAC) all scored two goals in the win. Ashleigh Johnson (Miami, FL/Princeton/NYAC) did the job in net turning aside 10 shots in the victory. Team USA jumped out to a big lead over China grabbing a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. They added two more goals in the second period and took a 6-1 advantage into halftime. In the third quarter China scored another goal but Team USA countered with two more goals for a commanding 8-2 lead going to the fourth. China’s offense came alive in the fourth as they scored three goals but the United States kept pace with three of their own on the way to the 11-5 victory.

The United States went 3/7 on power plays while China went 4/8 on power play with neither side attempting a penalty.
