NORFOLK, Va. – Led by three event wins from freshman William Carrico to power the UNCW men, the Seahawks posted an impressive sweep of Old Dominion in swimming action on Friday at Scrap Chandler Pool.
UNCW (155-105) improved to 2-0 on the men’s side while the women (156-98) evened their record at 1-1. Friday was the season-opener for Old Dominion.
Carrico, who opened his collegiate career with a key win in the 400 IM against South Carolina, collected wins in the 200 Butterfly, Backstroke and IM events.
On the women’s side of the meet, eight different Seahawks won individual events, including freshmen Abby Prucha (200 Fly) and Sam Duggan (500 Free).
The Seahawks visit William & Mary on Saturday for a 10 a.m. start at the Bee McLeod Recreation Center.

NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s and women’s swimming team completed its season opener on Friday against UNCW.

The first event of the day was the women’s 200 medley relay and a team of Samantha AllredMartina CiriesiKiersten Donnelly and Mary Dunworth took third place finshing with a time of 1:47.36.

In the Women’s 1000 freestyle, Sophia Kapla placed third with a time of 10:54.00

Ari Yagiz took first place for the Monarchs in the men’s 100 freestyle finishing with a time of 9:34.69.

In the men’s 200 freestyle, Grey Bremer took third with a time of 1:42.19.

Ally Hilbrich claimed first placed in the women’s 100 backstroke with a time of 58.60.

In the women’s 100 breaststroke, Mary Dunworth took first place finishing with a time of 1:06.04.

Bryce Mortimer took third place with a time of 58:05 in the men’s 100 breaststroke.

In the men’s 200 butterfly, Xander Schreck took third place with a time of 1:57.24.

In the men’s 50 freestyle, James Cleaver took first place finishing with a time of 20.83.

In the women’s 200 backstroke, Ally Hilbrich took third place finishing with a time of 2:06.19.

Gustaf Hansson took third place in the men’s 200 backstroke finishing with a time of 1:55.36.

In the men’s 200 breaststroke, Bryce Mortimer took second place finishing with a time of 2:07.03.

In the men’s 500 freestyle, ODU claimed the top two spots as Ari Yagiz took first with a time of 4:38.71 and Grey Bremer took second with a time of 4:43.33.

Old Dominion took the top three spots in the women’s 100 butterfly as Lauren Masters took first with a time of 59.12. Tanya Yevminova took second with a time of 59.18 and Kiersten Donnelly took third finishing with a time of 1:00.32.

James Cleaver took first place in the men’s 100 butterfly finishing with a time of 49.66.

In the women’s 200 IM Martina Ciriesi took first placed with a time of 2:08.53, Mallory Mackay took second with a time of 2:17.88 and Anna Bearor took third with a time of 2:20.27.

The women’s 200 freestyle relay had ODU finishing in the top three spots as the team of Mary DunworthSamantha Allred, Tanya Yeminova and Lauren Masters took first with a time of 1:39.28. Brina UhlinAngela SicajaAlly Hilbrich and Mallory Mackay took second with a time of 1:42.60. The third-place team of Peyton TurnerLizzy ThomasSophia Kapla and Lilly Cleal finished with a time of 1:46.04.

In the men’s 200 freestyle relay ODU claimed the top three spots. The first-place team of James Cleaver, Dawson TruongGustaf Hansson and Ryan Lincicum finished with a time of 1:24.66. Brice BoundsAlec NoletGrey Bremer and Russell Hronek took second with a time of 1:26.56. The third-place team of Drew Vanden Heuvel, Jaz ParahamZach Clowers and Tristen Wells finished in 1:31.25.

The Monarchs are back in action next Friday, Oct. 20 as they host Towson at the Scrap Chandler Pool.
