UNC Tar Heels reel in commitment from Texas state champion sprinter Kate Boyer

Texas 4A state champ Kate Boyer has verbally committed to swim for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels next season, their second big commitment this week.

Boyer is big-time sprint freestyler who holds the class 4A Texas state record in the 100 free. She swims for the Dallas Mustangs along with Highland Park High School.

“I’m so excited to be part of such an amazing team,” Boyer said of her commitment.

Boyer’s Top Times

  • 50 free: 23.23
  • 100 free: 50.85
  • Long course 50 free: 26.45

Boyer looks the part of a sprinter, standing at six feet tall. She’s won the past two 4A state titles in the 50 and added the 100 last year.

That sprinting ability makes her a great complement to UNC’s first commit, distance freestyler and backstroker Robyn Dryer. The Tar Heels always seem to be loaded with freestylers, and placed three 100 freestylers into the ACC championship final a year ago. Boyer adds even more depth to that group as North Carolina tries to knock Virginia off the ACC women’s throne.
