STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific swimming program went toe-to-toe with one of its toughest tests of the season, ultimately falling to UC Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
The Tigers’ women (5-3) and men (4-2) settled with its first combined loss of the season with scores of 195-62 and 170-89 respectively.
“We swam against some of the best today,” head coach Katelyne Herrington said. “We had some really good swims today, especially coming off of a big day yesterday. I thought we were most competitive in our freestyle events today and that helped bring us some points, but we gave our best shot today against UC Santa Barbara. It’s hard to see that when you look at the score but looking at where we have raced with our season times, you would know otherwise.”
Freshman Javier Lopez Guillen was the lone Tiger on the men’s side to finish first place in an event this afternoon, securing the gold in the men’s 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:47.42. Guillen has recorded a first-place finish in that event against all six opponents this season.
Senior Kelly Kermoian put together a strong performance in the women’s 400 yard IM, setting a season best with a time of 4:29.23.
Pacific battled closely in the freestyle events, including the final pair of 200 yard freestyle relays, but UC Santa Barbara found their groove from start to finish in holding on for the victory.
The Tigers look to recover and regroup for next week’s back-to-back home meets, beginning with UC Davis on Saturday at noon at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
