UBC Men, Women Sit Atop December CIS College Rankings

The UBC men and women have come out strong in the first half of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) season as they march on toward the 2015 CIS Swimming Championships being held from February 19th-21st at the University of Victoria.

With each team sitting 200+ points ahead of their next-closest competitors, they both seem to be big favorites to win this year’s title – with the women trying to defend their crown behind international-level breaststroker Tera van Beilen.

On the men’s side, UBC continues to open up the rankings ahead of the defending champions from the University of Toronto. UofT returns National Champions in the 50 free (Chris Manning), 50 breast (Chris Manning), and 50 fly (Edward Liu), but after losing Zack Chetrat are still an underdog heading into the spring semester.

UBC, meanwhile, is riding the best sprinter in the CIS Luke Peddie this season, along with several other potential National Champions

Women’s Top 10

The only change to the women’s top 10 is that a previous tie for 8th in the rankings between Alberta and Ottawa has been broken with Ottawa now holding that spot on its own. The Ottawa women have huge meets against McMaster University (dual, January 15th) and at the University of Toronto Ontario Cup (invite, January 16th and 17th) with an opportunity to prove that ranking before beginning the OUA Championships in early February.
