U.S. Winter Nationals Will Have Random Drug Testing During All Sessions

The 2015 U.S. Winter National Championships in Federal Way, Washington will feature random drug testing during all 6 of the meet’s sessions, USA Swimming said on Thursday afternoon.

During the organization’s technical meeting on Wednesday, coaches and officials were told that random drug testing would take place during Thursday and Friday finals sessions only, however a spokesperson tells SwimSwam today that the information given to coaches at that meeting was incorrect, and that testing will actually take place during all sessions of the meet, at random.

Other pertinent pieces of information:

  • Officials will ask backstrokers if they want the wedges, and put them in the water if they want them, but it will be up to the athletes to adjust the height (from +4 to -4 is the acceptable range within FINA rules). Officials will be monitoring the settings of the wedges before each race, and endeavor to correct those settings prior to the start of the race
  • The meet will employ flyover starts during prelims
